Dress Up

I decided to wear a Calvin Klein shirt I had bought a while back. When I bought the shirt I was sort of in an “I don’t care, I’ll wear that” mood. I have never worn it until the dress up outside your comfort zone day.

I definitely would not have my nails done or any makeup. That’s too far. I asked a few of my friends if they had anything I could wear, but they didn’t have anything that I would be uncomfortable wearing.

I did not receive any compliments. It really wasn’t too out of the ordinary. It was just something I wouldn’t normally wear. Through out the day I had noticed a few more stares, but that was all. My friends didn’t think much of it. They had seen it on before, just not in public. I didn’t go up to random people or people I didn’t know, so no compliments there.

To a certain point I would agree that clothes make the person. You could tell if a person would rather be comfortable by what they were wearing if they wear wearing sweatpants, a loose fitted shirt, or something similar to that. You could tell if a person would rather look stylish if they had a dressy shirt, pants and shoes on. A person who is stylish may be more materialistic. Other than being able to tell if they like a certain band or sports team, you can’t tell who they are or what they’re like.

Anthropological Standpoint

In doing this project, I have learned to step out of my daily routine of classes, studying, and socializing. I’ve noticed that there are a lot more sculptures around campus than I thought. I never really paid attention to the sculptures or cared to know how many there are or why they are there. I can now appreciate their meaning (or at least what I think they mean).
I have learned that a lot of students have their own ways of studying, whether it is quietly in the library or in their dorm with the music on. Either way, the students here do care about getting their work done, and getting the best grade they are capable of.
I now know that there is no reason why anyone should fail a research paper. There are so many students who still don’t know all that our library has to offer. There are so many different kinds of resources available at the library, and just as many faculty to help find and use the available resources effectively.
All of the people at this university share a common focus; that is to learn and to educate.

Diversity

I think this sculpture represents the physical similarities between everyone that is visible and differences between all of us that make us who we are. The outline of this sculpture symbolizes our physical similarities, and the hole in the middle symbolizes what makes us different. We all grew up differently, having different backgrounds, ideas and feelings. One sculpture isn’t going to represent all of our differences. I believe the hole represents diversity.

Microfiche

A microfiche is a 4in. by 5in. photographic film that contains information that cannot be seen by the naked eye. Microfiche are commonly used to archive books, magazines, government documents, and newspapers. Advantages of microfiche are that they take up very little space, anyone can use them, and if kept in a temperature controlled environment, can last up to 500 years. One main disadvantage to microfiche is that they need large, expensive machines to read them. Another disadvantage is that once they have been imprinted, they cannot be changed or corrected.

Isn't a Blugold Some Mystical Fish?

A majority, if not all, of the students who go through UW–Eau Claire ask “what is a Blugold?” People have asked this as long as the word “blugold” has existed. After a while of searching, I found through an article of The Spectator that there had been a committee in 1965 to come up with a mascot, however, the committee did not succeed in doing do. I also found that in coming up with a name for a mascot; the university had “bulldogs” as one of the possibilities. The university decided against it because some of the local high schools mascots were bulldogs. Some think that the university just rearranged the letters in “bulldogs” to form “blugold.”

"XF?"

What is an XF? Something you don’t want to end up with. A XF is a grade that goes on a student’s transcript when a student is caught performing an act of academic dishonesty. Things like plagiarism or non – attendance will earn you a XF. Some colleges give students the option of taking it off of their transcript by completing certain tasks such as an academic integrity course. Just hand in your own work and go to class. If you can do that, you shouldn’t have to worry about a XF appearing on you transcript.

Study Habits

I went around and asked five people what their study habits are. The first person I asked said that she preferred to study in her room or a friend’s room, and that they liked to be in a comfortable place. Someone else said that they most often studied in the library where it’s quiet or in the Towers’ study lounge. They added that if they were to study in their room, nothing would get done. The next person after that was the opposite. He likes to study in his room with the music on. I asked if he ever studies in the library, he said that he tried that a couple of times and it was too quiet. One person gave a slightly more detailed answer. She doesn’t mind studying in the library, but she mostly ends up studying at her house off campus. Sometimes she will study in her room, by herself, with the music on. She admitted that it takes a little longer to finish homework under those conditions. She said that she is most productive first studying by herself for a while then getting together with friends to talk about the material. The last person I asked said that he liked to study in his dorm room while it’s quiet. It seems that everyone has their own methods/places to study, and that what makes one focus, distracts another.
