Microfiche

A microfiche is a 4in. by 5in. photographic film that contains information that cannot be seen by the naked eye. Microfiche are commonly used to archive books, magazines, government documents, and newspapers. Advantages of microfiche are that they take up very little space, anyone can use them, and if kept in a temperature controlled environment, can last up to 500 years. One main disadvantage to microfiche is that they need large, expensive machines to read them. Another disadvantage is that once they have been imprinted, they cannot be changed or corrected.
